    Description

This auction is for a late 1930s Unity Driving Light / Fog Light. This is an unusual version of the Unity light as I will explain below.
    1) Unity made Sportlite Spotlights beginning in the late 1920s. But they didn't start making driving lights / fog lights until 1937.
    2) The light you see in this auction was made for sale for the 1937, 1938 & 1939 Models years.
    3) Stamped into the top of the light is the following information.
    UNITY MFG CO.
    CHICAGO, ILL.
    MADE IN U.S.A.
    APPROVED PENNA. 1937
    4) The last line " APPROVED PENNA. 1937 " Is not often seen on these Unity lights. The State of Pennsylvania did pass laws relating to vehicle lighting in 1937.
    5) This light is set up for use with a double filament bulb and there is a double bulb in the socket now. So instead of a normal 32 CP light. This is a 64 CP light.  There are two wires going into the back of the socket, so likely it was made to operate at 32CP or double that with both filaments lit. It would have been activated by the foot switch of the car. One wire has been cut . The wiring will need to be replaced. My conclusion is this is a Unity driving light which conforms to Penna 1937 laws.
    6) The lens is a Unity 9065 amber lens which is correct for the 1937 - 1939 period. The lens is the correct size for this light.
The pictures tell the story on condition. The ring around the lens needs a bit of attention in spots. No dents in the body of the light. The light has its original Unity mounting bracket for bumper mount. It's a very cool driving light. E-Mail with questions. Shipping extra. Good Luck!
